This information would be used to create materials checklist and shopping lists for the project and track what's been ordered.

We are excited to announce our new Material Catalog tool where you can store your commonly used materials and easily make your material selections directly on the Estimator to create project shopping lists!

Dave, I would reach out to Home Depot and Lowes and see if they would be open to having an API that would allow you to integrate their product database into your software. This is only free advertising for them. Mixed with some of your other suggestions and comments below, this could create a shopping list that could be purchased right from your site or a picking slip for the store for our contractors to go and grab using our Pro Accounts with each company respectively.
This could generate a referral commission for you guys as well where you get a percentage of each order and also allow us to enter in our items or room dimensions, say kitchens for example and get connected with Home Depot's or Lowes Design team and get our kitchens, cabinets, etc ordered.
Just some food for thought!

We do a large volume and are at the point where we are creating a series of packages

It would be nice to add a package at the estimate level or to an RFP so the contractor has the set list of all materials to be used.

One of the tools we are considering building is a Materials manager which allows you to create a database of commonly used materials for your projects. You could then create a materials list from the database that you could use to manage your material orders on your project.

Dave Robertson: Fantastic! It would be great if we can also use this to put together a sample tile layout and list of all materials in a set room. 
For instance: Master bath-
-Floor Tile: (insert manufacturer, item no, size, color, finish, material)
-Either allow us to upload an image of the layout (pdf or jpeg), or select from a couple presets.
It would also be great if we can upload elevation drawings that we can add to the finished PDF for the project as well. That way not only does each trade have the information in the notes section, but they have a full page dedicated to their action items. (I’m a designer so need to include more specifications for my trades)
